History Timeline

One of the ways we like to kick of social studies is by talking to the student about why it is important to study history. We then have our students research historical events that take place during the time period they are going to study over the course of the school year. We provide the pictures, without captions, and they make inferences and use context clues to figure out what is going on in the photo. Once they have pinpointed what the photo is they come up with a short description of the event/photo. The students work collaboratively to build research skills and create a framework for what they are going to be studying. We refer back to these photo timelines throughout the year.
